Coming Up for Air...

I am soooo sick right now, but I didn't want you all to think that I'd forgotten about you! The past few weeks have been a flurry of paper writing and presentations; I'll be done this semester in about two weeks and I could not be happier about it! Unfortunately, right now was the worst time for me to get sick and I'm trying my best just to stay afloat!

How about a picture of what I made for my most recent swap?

I'm taking part in the Scrappy Mug Rug Swap on Flickr and this is the one that I made for my partner. What's a mug rug, you ask? A mug rug is basically a large coaster - it has enough room for both your mug and a little treat like a scone or cookie. I made mine using a combination of linen, Nicey Jane, Dolce, and four prints from three Heather Ross collections - West Hill, Mendocino, and Far Far Away 2. The back is a print from Joel Dewberry's Modern Meadow and the binding is from Kate Spain`s Verna collection. I also made my partner a coffee cozy and included some fun fabrics that I hope she'll like. I haven`t received my mug rug yet but I`ll show pics as soon as I do!

Okay I'm off, I think I may need to go to bed super-early again tonight (I fell asleep at 8:45 last night). I'm going to try my best to blog at least a few times before the end of the semester, but if you don't hear from me you'll know that I've been buried alive under a mountain of papers and notes - please come and save me!

  3. I love the idea of a mug rug! I'll have to make one for myself after I finish with the semester. I sure know what you mean when you say that the past few weeks have been a mess of writing papers and presentations! Feel better!

  4. What a good idea. I like the mug rug. I have not heard of a swap like this before. I would be curious to know how they work. Is your partner the person you swap with?

My mother made me a mug rug that she stitched on plastic canvas many many moons ago and I still have it. It comes in quite handy for my sewing table!

  5. Swaps like these are secret swaps - so you know who you are sending to but you don't know who is sending back to you. When you sign up for the swap you usually send an email with your likes and dislikes to the "swap mama" who then pairs you up with your two partners; she then forwards all your info along to the person who is sending to you. It's pretty fun because it enables you to share pictures of what you're making on your blog or on Flickr without ruining the surprise for your partner.

  7. Thank you for explaining the "Mug Rug" I have seen these all over blog land and thought you wrapped your mug in them to stop you from burning your hands (how silly am I) but I get it now like a "picnic rug" lol.

  10. Such a yummy mug rug! You have a lucky partner!

I hope you feel better! There is nothing worse than being sick when you're so busy!

Been thinking of you! It somehow makes it easier knowing someone else is just as busy with schoolwork! We should celebrate with fabric in two weeks ;)
